Automi started from a contradiction the OSS team noticed at the end of 2021. Recruiting was the top challenge of every manufacturing chief executive; the productivity of operational staff had barely moved in five years; and on the shop floor, workers complained above all about fragmented work and repetitive quality-control tasks. Factories were short of people and behind on automation at the same time.
The team set out to explore the space factory by factory, and Automi was co-built at OSS Ventures in 2022 to take the repetitive checks off operators' hands.
